Fikile Mbalula, the Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC), is expecting a report from the party’s leadership in Johannesburg concerning the escalating tensions with coalition partners in the metro.

Eyewitness News has discovered that the ANC in Johannesburg is contemplating severing connections with ActionSA. This comes after ActionSA rejected backing the ANC’s revised budget last week.

If the split happens, ActionSA’s Nobuhle Mthembu, who secured the Speaker of Council position with ANC support, could face removal.

Mbalula stated that both regional and provincial leaders were addressing the issue.

“I won’t comment until we receive the full report and engage in discussions within the coalition clearinghouse. However, I am aware that our provincial task team, led by Hope Papo, along with our REC, is handling the matter. Once they finalize their findings, we will make an announcement. It’s still early, but these concerns must be addressed,” said Mbalula.
