AfriForum has firmly rejected President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent accusation that their visit to the Trump administration was aimed at sowing division in South Africa. The organization argues that it is the government that is neglecting Afrikaner concerns, particularly through policies like the Expropriation Act and the Bela Act.

Ramaphosa’s Claims Challenged

Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, voiced his disapproval of Ramaphosa’s comments, calling them a misrepresentation of their objectives. He stated that it is the President, not AfriForum, who is exacerbating divisions within the country. “It is President Ramaphosa who signed the controversial Bela Act, which threatens the cultural rights of Afrikaans-speaking communities. Similarly, it is he who endorsed the Expropriation Act, and continues to ignore the issues like farm murders and the harmful slogans such as ‘Kill the Boer’,” Kriel explained.

Ongoing Efforts to Defend Afrikaner Rights

Kriel emphasized that despite the President’s attempts to silence them, AfriForum would not back down from advocating for the rights of Afrikaners. The group, in collaboration with Solidarity, recently submitted a “Washington Memorandum,” urging US officials to press the South African government on issues like farm murders and race-based discrimination. Their request also called for US humanitarian aid for Afrikaner communities facing these challenges.

Government Dismissal of AfriForum’s Actions

In contrast, Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni dismissed AfriForum’s efforts, criticizing their actions and suggesting that not all Afrikaners support the organization. During a media briefing, Ntshavheni also defended the government’s diplomatic work with the United States, particularly in relation to trade agreements like AGOA (African Growth and Opportunity Act). She questioned why AfriForum continues to spread misinformation, implying that if they were unhappy with South Africa’s progress, they should consider President Trump’s offer for resettlement in the US.

Despite the government’s criticism, AfriForum remains committed to its mission, stating that these accusations only strengthen their resolve to continue fighting for Afrikaner rights and to challenge government policies they believe are harmful.
