South African Cabinet Condemns AfriForum’s Misinformation Campaign on Farm Murders

The South African government has expressed concern over the spread of misinformation by AfriForum and Solidarity regarding farm murders and white genocide claims.
The Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, revealed that Cabinet has taken note of misinformation campaigns by AfriForum, Solidarity, and their allies following their recent trip to the United States. These organizations have repeatedly claimed that white farmers are being targeted in a genocide, a narrative that the South African Police Service (SAPS) has now publicly refuted.
SAPS Confirms Crime Statistics Are Accurate
To address the allegations, SAPS met with AfriForum to discuss farm murders and clarify crime statistics. According to Minister Ntshavheni, AfriForum conceded that the official crime statistics released by the Minister of Police are accurate, including data on farm murders.
“At the meeting, AfriForum conceded that the crime statistics as released by the Minister of Police are accurate, including on farm murders,” she stated.
She further emphasized that farm attacks are not exclusively racially motivated, pointing out that in many cases, perpetrators are known to the victims, including family members and workers.
False Claims About White Farmers Relocating to the U.S.
The South African government also addressed false reports suggesting that 72,000 white farmers have signed up to relocate to the United States in response to an invitation by the U.S. President.
Minister Ntshavheni dismissed the claim, citing official data from Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), which shows that the total number of farming units in South Africa is 41,122. Given this, the number of commercial white farmers does not exceed this figure, making the claim of 72,000 relocating farmers factually impossible.
Cabinet’s Stance on Misinformation Campaigns
The South African government has warned that misinformation campaigns have serious consequences, both domestically and internationally. Law enforcement agencies are investigating potential violations of South African laws related to false claims that could incite racial divisions and fear.
Ntshavheni reiterated that the government remains committed to protecting all South Africans from crime, including farmers, but rejects the white genocide narrative as false and misleading.
As misinformation continues to spread, authorities urge the public to rely on verified crime statistics and avoid politically motivated narratives that distort the reality of crime in South Africa.
