Johandré Blom Recovers After Horrific Crocodile Attack at Emanzini Resort

A seven-year-old boy, Johandré Blom, is now recovering at home after a near-fatal crocodile attack at the Emanzini Fishing Resort near Brits in March. Johandré was playing in shallow waters with a friend, Dylan Bekker, when a crocodile unexpectedly dragged him away from the shore.

The terrifying attack unfolded just meters away from their fathers, who were fishing nearby. Dylan screamed in an attempt to pull Johandré back, but the situation quickly escalated as the crocodile, described as a “monster,” dragged the young boy further into the water.

“It was a monster of a crocodile. After Johandré was saved, a young man went out in a boat to see if he could find the arm, and the crocodile went for the boat. We went to see the owner of the resort and advised that the crocodile be shot. This must not happen again. It was horrendous,” said Jannie Bekker, Dylan’s father, speaking to Kormorant.

Johandré’s father, Corné, bravely rushed into the water and managed to free his son, though the boy tragically lost his arm in the attack. After being stabilised in Brits, Johandré was airlifted to a hospital in Alberton, where he was placed in an induced coma.

To cover his medical expenses, including multiple urgent surgeries, Johandré’s family launched a BackaBuddy campaign, aiming to raise R1 million. Despite the daunting recovery and costly medical treatments, the family has received overwhelming support, having raised nearly half a million rand for Johandré’s care. Johandré expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt video as he shared his recovery progress.
