Brooklyn CPF to hold elections
Brooklyn residents in the east of Pretoria are gearing up to elect their new Community Police Forum (CPF) representatives to serve their community this year.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said residents are encouraged to participate in the elections on Monday at Elim Full Gospel Church on Duxbury Road, Hillcrest opposite Brooklyn Police Station.
“The community is urged to attend the election meeting because, through effective community structures, they can assist the police in fighting and preventing crime successfully.”
Van Dyk said the sector’s elections will be held at 18:00.
He said the CPF will have six vacant positions – chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, and public relations officer – which must be filled.
All community members, residents, concerned organisations, partners, role players and business owners in the Brooklyn policing precinct are encouraged to attend the elections.
Van Dyk said a CPF is very important as it helps to keep communities safe, and works with the police through integrated crime prevention and crime combatting operations, which are critical in policing.
“The CPF will bolster police work, such as the amendment of the SAPS Act.”
He said CPFs are the police’s strongest link to communities and play an integral role in the safety partnership.
Van Dyk said people who are eligible to stand for the elections must comply with the following:
– The candidate must be in good standing.
– No SANDF, SAPS, reservists or correctional service officers.
– No owners or employees of private security companies.
– Be a SA citizen.
– Must hold no political positions.
– Be 18 years or older.
The Brooklyn policing precinct includes the following suburbs:
Sector 1: Brooklyn, Hatfield, Hillcrest, Koedoespoort, Lynnwood North and Persequor Park
Sector 2: Alphen Park, Ashley Gardens, Bailey’s Muckleneuk, Hazelwood, Maroelana, Menlo Park, Nieuw Muckleneuk and Waterkloof
Sector 3: Constantia Park, De Beers, Erasmuskloof, Lynnwood Glen, Menlyn, Newlands and Waterkloof Glen.
Sector 4: Erasmusrand, Monument Park, Sterrewag, Waterkloof Heights, Waterkloof Park, Waterkloof Ridge and Waterkloof Ridge X2.
