Two police officers will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday for extorting R15,000 from a couple. According to IOL, they are facing corruption charges. Previously, Ipid members apprehended the pair stationed at Pretoria Central police station. The Ipid’s national spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, said the duo’s arrest originated from an incident on February 28. Pretoria Central Reservists and Patrollers stopped a husband and wife while driving in the Pretoria Central Business District.

The officers demanded the husband vacate the driver’s seat. They drove the couple to the Department of Home Affairs under false pretences. Once there, the officers coerced the wife to withdraw R15,000 from her bank account, which they pocketed. The matter was reported to Ipid on February 29, leading to the officers’ arrest on Saturday, March 9.
