Johannesburg Flying Squad members have made significant strides in curbing criminal activity, resulting in 11 arrests in Johannesburg and the recovery of three unlicensed firearms and four stolen vehicles. This operation carried out between August 4 and 7, aimed to address various aspects of criminality in the city.

Of the 11 arrested, seven suspects had unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Additionally, three individuals possessed suspected stolen and hijacked vehicles. Another arrest was made for using a car without the owner’s consent, highlighting the diverse criminal activities targeted during this operation.

The recovery of three firearms, including a 9mm Norinco and two 38 specials revolvers with filed-off serial numbers, underscores the seriousness of the illegal firearm trade in the city. These weapons have been turned over to the Jeppe SAPS for further investigation.

Furthermore, the successful operation resulted in the recovery of several stolen vehicles. Among the cars were a hijacked grey VW Polo, a white Toyota Rav 4, a white Nissan NP200, and a white Toyota Corolla, all reported as stolen.

Raymond Sambo, the communication officer for the flying squad, attributed these accomplishments to collaboration with the community. He expressed gratitude for the public’s contributions in providing information that enabled these recoveries. Sambo also encouraged anyone with information about the recovered vehicles to contact the relevant detectives, referencing the case numbers provided.

The arrested suspects, aged between 19 and 27, appeared in various magistrate’s courts, facing charges related to their alleged criminal activities.
