As the United Rugby Championship (URC) kick-off on 20 September approaches, Bulls coach Jake White expresses his enthusiasm for the increasing experience within his squad.

During a recent URC ‘Coaches on the Couch’ session, White mentioned that the Bulls are nearing a balance between youth and experience that they have been striving for.

“Exciting times lie ahead for the Bulls. With nine Springboks in our squad over three URC campaigns, our strength has significantly improved. Being able to potentially field a Springbok in every position sets us up nicely to compete for victory in this competition,” White stated.

Having reached two Grand Finals in three years, White acknowledged the squad’s quality by producing Springboks.

“I am eager to see how we can progress from last season,” White added.

White believes that this experience will be crucial in overcoming the factors that led to their defeat against the Glasgow Warriors in the Grand Final at Loftus Versfeld last season.

Reflecting on the Grand Final defeat, White highlighted the toll of facing strong opposition teams consecutively, leading to fatigue in the final match.

White expressed confidence in the current squad’s ability to endure such challenges for an extended period and maintain their competitive edge throughout the season.

He commended Ruan Nortjé as a prime example of a player who has grown in stature and can share his Test experience effectively with the rest of the team.

“Ruan Nortjé’s journey is a remarkable success story. Coming from humble beginnings, he has worked his way up to playing and defeating the All Blacks in a Test match. His dedication, hard work, and attention to detail, including his personal analysis system, have been instrumental in his contributions to the Springbok setup,” White praised.
