The eagerly anticipated day has arrived as enthusiastic runners gather on the streets for Joburg’s renowned event. The Jozi leg of the SPAR Women’s Challenge, a perennial success bringing together community members and running enthusiasts, is currently underway.

Glenrose Xaba has positioned herself to make history by becoming the first South African woman to secure the SPAR Grand Prix title since the inclusion of international athletes in 2019. Her last victory was in 2018. The race will see Xaba accompanied by her mentor, double Olympic gold medallist Caster Semenya, and her coach Violet Raseboya.

“I have had a fantastic year and aim to finish it on a high note,” Xaba stated. “I am fully prepared to give my all to the race, aiming for another win and a good time to conclude the SPAR Grand Prix season.”

Local runner Gerda Steyn expressed her delight at participating in this prestigious event, highlighting the camaraderie and competitive spirit among women. “It’s a special experience when women come together to race, have fun, and support each other. I am thrilled to be running in my hometown of Jozi,” Steyn shared.

With over 10,000 registered runners, this race promises to be a memorable one.
