This weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will mark the end of an era for Lewis Hamilton, as he bids farewell to Mercedes, the team that helped him secure six of his seven World Championship titles. After a remarkable 12-year tenure with the Silver Arrows, Hamilton will embark on a new chapter with Ferrari, where the team is hopeful he can lead them to their first Constructors’ Championship title in 16 years.

Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes is bittersweet, as the Briton has spent a significant portion of his racing career with the brand, achieving unprecedented success. He will close out his 26-year association with Mercedes, a journey that has seen him become one of the sport’s greatest drivers with 105 career wins.

As he moves to Ferrari, there is hope that Hamilton can rediscover the form that once made him the sport’s most dominant driver, despite struggles in the current “ground effect” era, where Red Bull and Max Verstappen have reigned supreme. Despite recent challenges, including disappointing results in Brazil and Qatar, Hamilton remains determined to reclaim his spot at the top.

Ferrari, eager to add another title to their collection, is offering Hamilton a contract through 2026. The team hopes that with Hamilton on board, they can finally end their drought since winning their last Constructors’ Championship in 2008. Hamilton’s contract also allows him to continue his advocacy for diversity and inclusion, something close to his heart.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed pride in the partnership with Hamilton, highlighting their “unparalleled story” and stating that while this season may have been challenging, it doesn’t detract from the success they’ve shared over the years. Hamilton, who will turn 40 in January, is determined to “rise again” with Ferrari and prove his critics wrong.

With the Constructors’ Championship still up for grabs, Hamilton’s final race with Mercedes at Yas Marina could provide the perfect conclusion to an iconic chapter in Formula 1. Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will give it their all in a bid to overturn McLaren’s 21-point lead and secure the title in a thrilling finale to the season.

As Hamilton prepares to move on, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will not only signify the end of his era with Mercedes but also set the stage for what promises to be a new chapter with Ferrari in 2025.
