Sandton teen shines at Junior Interprovincial Cricket Tournament

Luke Jones, a Grade 11 learner at Crawford International Sandton College, has been chosen to represent Central Gauteng at the Junior Interprovincial Action Cricket Tournament held at the Fourways Action Sports Arena.

Luke’s team, the U16 Central Gauteng Cubs, achieved remarkable success during the tournament, securing the gold medal.

The Cubs demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, winning eight out of nine matches and delivering a dominant performance in the finals against their rivals, the Southern Gauteng Scorpions.

Nadia Cooke stated that this triumph reflects the Cubs’ hard work, commitment, and love for the sport.

“The Central Gauteng Action Cricket team and their coaches have brought honor to our province through their extraordinary dedication and fair play,” Cooke remarked.

She further mentioned that their success sets a great example of what can be achieved through collaboration and persistence.

“We are especially proud of Luke, who exhibited his outstanding skills throughout the tournament. Luke scored an impressive 140 runs, securing the sixth position overall, and took 17 wickets, earning him the title of the second-ranked bowler in the event.”
