Bryanston Parallel Medium School (BPMS) is proudly celebrating their learners who are contributing to South Africa’s growing legacy of world-class quality rugby.

The school’s U9s to U11s, second and first teams played in this year’s Golden Lions Primary School Rugby Union tournament recently. This was the school’s second year participating in the prestigious sub-super league rugby tournament. In previous years, the school had participated in the premier section of the league.

BPMS’s U9 and U11 teams placed first on the logs. The U10 and first teams placed second and third on their respective logs, and the school’s second team ranked fifth.

Principal Ilze du Preez commended the school’s rugby teams for the immense pride brought to the school community, and the new benchmark they set for future rugby seasons.

“This victory is historic for BPMS as it is the first time the school has seen three teams win the finals in a single season,” said Du Preez. “The school looks forward to continuing this legacy of excellence and sportsmanship in the coming years.”

The first team was expertly guided by coaches JJ Bezuidenhout and Leon Verster. The U11 team benefitted from the leadership of Joshua Reid, Henry Scheun, and Zander Zietsman. The U9 team was skillfully coached by Edwil van der Merwe and Joshua Goodchild.

“Adding to the school’s accolades, BPMS is honoured to have three players selected to represent the U13A Golden Lions team at Cravenweek. Kenzo Hudson, Denzel Emito, and Cullen le Grange have been chosen for this prestigious team,” Du Preez said. “BPMS has marked an extraordinary milestone in the 2024 rugby season, demonstrating remarkable prowess and dedication.”
