South Africa vs. Romania

Despite challenging weather conditions, including rain and a moisture-laden rugby ball and pitch, the South Africa vs. Romania match in Pool B in Bordeaux on Sunday afternoon had the Springboks dominating.

In a decidedly one-sided match played under wet conditions, the South African team, donning their green and gold jerseys, overwhelmed Romania with a resounding 76-0 bonus-point victory. The Springboks had already established a dominant 33-0 lead by halftime.

Cobus Reinach emerged as the star of the day, securing his second World Cup hat-trick. Reinach, who opened the scoring just three minutes into the match, replicated his outstanding feat from the 2019 World Cup against Canada.

His third try of the day came in the 24th minute, nearly breaking his record for the fastest World Cup hat-trick by a matter of minutes.

The Springboks wasted no time securing the bonus point, accomplishing it in just 12 minutes when Damian Willemse showcased some impressive sidestepping skills to score a try.

The second half saw the Springboks trying out different combinations. Deon Fourie took over from Bongi Mbonambi as hooker, while Faf de Klerk assumed the flyhalf role alongside replacement scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse.

Marco van Staden, who started as an openside flanker, also contributed with some late lineout throws, successfully serving as a third hooker option.

Despite these changes, the Springboks continued to dominate, with Fourie making an early impact in the second half. Grant Williams scored twice, and Makazole Mapimpi sealed the match with a hat-trick of his own.

The Springboks will face Ireland in their next match on Saturday, 23 September, and fans eagerly anticipate another thrilling performance from the world champions.
