Lungo Katete, a Local Model, Reaches Miss South Africa 2023 Finals
Lungo Katete is now a Miss South Africa 2023 finalist, and her passion for fashion and design has fueled her journey in the competition. The 26-year-old model from Midrand has a creative heart and a flair for all things artistic, a trait she inherited from her architect father and fashionista mother. Katete is the eldest of five children and cherishes the close-knit bond of her substantial family.
Having always been a fashion enthusiast, it was no surprise that Katete fell in love with modelling as it allowed her to express her passion for fashion. She has garnered numerous accolades and achievements throughout her modelling career, establishing herself as a prominent catwalker. In 2019, she was crowned Miss Earth South Africa, representing the nation in the international Miss Earth pageant.
Inspired by the impactful legacies of past beauty pageant queens like Zozibini Tunzi, Katete is determined to use her platform to make a positive difference. She looks up to Michelle Obama as her international role model, admiring her ability to break stereotypes and empower women in all fields.

For Katete, being Miss SA is not just about wearing a crown; it’s about using that crown to influence change and improve the lives of others. Her education at the University of the Witwatersrand, where she pursued Architectural Studies and earned her Master’s in Architecture, has contributed to her well-rounded perspective.
With a firm belief that women can influence, empower, lead, and leave a lasting legacy, Katete advocates for never giving up on one’s dreams and embracing uniqueness. She encourages the youth to value their voices and ideas and to advocate for themselves and others who may lack a voice.
Apart from her modelling career, Katete is a candidate architect for Kamo Architects, showcasing her versatility and determination to excel in multiple areas.
The Miss South Africa 2023 competition recognises Katete’s talents, and she joins the other top 12 finalists in pursuing the coveted title. As she vies for the crown, she aims to carry on the legacy of past queens and make a significant impact during her reign.
