Shekhinah Pledges Youthful Energy at Basha Uhuru Festival

Basha Uhuru Creative Uprising, a premium festival celebrating youth and creativity, has returned to Johannesburg with a vibrant lineup of music, art exhibitions, panel discussions, and film-inspired activities.
The festival, running from Wednesday to Saturday, features an impressive roster of musical talent, including pop sensation Shekhinah, Afropop and amapiano singer Samthing Soweto, DJ Zinhle, Kwesta, Thando Nje, and Sol Phenduka, who will perform on Saturday as reported by IOL.
The event coincides with the commemoration of the 47th anniversary of the Soweto uprisings, a significant moment in South African history when young people fought for their rights, resulting in the loss of many lives.
Shekhinah, in an interview with The Star, expressed her excitement about delivering a fresh and captivating performance for music fans. Known for her distinct voice, she has gained recognition as one of the prominent voices of the current generation of musicians.
Shekhinah stated, “What music lovers can expect from me is a new and exciting show. My favorite thing about my team and me is that every show is different. We love to keep our audience on their toes.”

As Youth Month is celebrated, Shekhinah offers advice to young people, encouraging them to embrace the present moment and find joy in their current circumstances. She also acknowledged the challenges faced by the youth, particularly unemployment and a lack of purpose, urging them to pursue their dreams and believe in what they can achieve.
Established in 2021, the Basha Uhuru festival aims to honour the memory of the courageous youth who fought for freedom during the Soweto uprising in 1976. It provides a platform for contemporary young individuals to express their creativity and exercise their freedom of expression.
Over the years, the festival has evolved into more than just an event, becoming a gathering place for Constitution Hill’s Creative Uprising Hub, showcasing, profiling, and supporting individuals in the creative sector.
Dawn Robertson, CEO of Constitution Hill, expressed pride in partnering with like-minded stakeholders to create a flagship creative event that celebrates the legacy of the 1976 youth. She emphasised the significance of Basha Uhuru in fostering development, collaboration, and skills enhancement for creatives, ultimately contributing to the growth and support of the creative economy in Gauteng.
