Sweetcorn maize meal with grated cheese

Whether it’s the soft and creamy pap, enjoyed with a butter and milk, or the firmer stywe pap served with a meat stew, maize meal is a versatile ingredient that brings people together.

This recipe for sweetcorn maize meal with grated cheese takes the familiar comfort of traditional maize meal and gives it a modern twist, transforming it into a wholesome weeknight side dish.

Prep time: 5 – 10 minutes | Cooking time: 25 – 30 minutes | Serves: 5-6

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Harvestime Sweetcorn
  • 4 cup Water
  • 2 TSBP Aromat
  • 4 TBSP Butter/Margarine
  • ½ cup Grated Cheese
  • 3 cup Maize meal

Method

  1. Heat up the water to a gentle boil.
  2. Season the water with Aromat, add the butter and mix until melted.
  3. Add the Harvestime Sweet Corn to the boiling water and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the cheese and stir until melted.
  5. Add the maize meal bit by bit, stirring rapidly to combine the maize meal and the water.
  6. Mix the pap vigorously making sure there are no lumps. Cover with lid and cook for 10mins. Add hot water if mixture is too stiff.
  7. Stir the pap again, and cook for an additional 10 mins over low heat.
  8. Serve while warm and enjoy.
