Strawberry Gin and Tonic with rosemary

Published

on

Spring is all about renewal and freshness, and this cocktail embodies those qualities perfectly. Strawberries, with their juicy sweetness and vibrant red colour, are a quintessential spring fruit. When muddled into a gin and tonic, they add a natural sweetness and a touch of tartness that balances beautifully with the bitterness of the tonic water.

The addition of rosemary takes this drink to another level. Rosemary’s piney, slightly peppery flavour complements the botanicals in the gin, while its aroma adds an earthy, herbal note that pairs wonderfully with the strawberries.

Ingredients

  • 50 ml gin
  • 150 ml tonic water
  • 3-4 fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 rosemary sprig, plus extra for garnish
  • Ice cubes
  • A squeeze of fresh lemon juice or a lemon twist for garnish

Method

  1. In a large glass or cocktail shaker, add the sliced strawberries. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently muddle the strawberries until they release their juices. Pour the gin over the muddled strawberries.
  2. Add a sprig of rosemary and gently press it with the muddler or spoon to release its essential oils.
  3. Fill your glass with ice cubes, then pour in the tonic water. Give the drink a gentle stir.
  4. Garnish with an extra sprig of rosemary and, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice or a lemon twist.
