Sticky chicken wings made with Rooibos syrup

Get ready to transform your snack game with a unique twist on a classic favourite: Sticky Chicken Wings made with Rooibos Syrup. Recipe compliments of Joekels.

Ingredients

For the wings:

  • 12 x chicken wings
  • 1 x Tbs olive oil
  • 1 x ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1 x ¼ cup Rooibos syrup (see recipe below)
  • 2 x Tbs fresh lemon juice
  • 1 x clove garlic, minced
  • 1 x Tbs chilli sauce
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Salt & pepper to season

For the Rooibos syrup:

  • 2 x cups water
  • 4 x Teabags Laager Cranberry & Wild Cherry Rooiboss
  • 1 x cup sugar

Method

  1. In a saucepan, place water, Laager Cranberry and Wild Cherry Rooibos teabags and sugar and bring to the boil.
  2. Simmer until the mixture is reduced to half.
  3. Set aside and cool.
  4. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  5. In a bowl, toss the wings with the oil, salt and pepper and place on a baking tray.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes, rotating after 20 minutes until crisp and golden on each side.
  7. In a saucepan, place the rest of the ingredients (except the sesame seeds), heat through until the sauce has thickened
  8. As soon the as the wings come out of the oven, toss them in the thickened Rooibos syrup.
  9. Transfer wings on a serving platter, finish with sesame seeds and serve.
