Give the Arnold Palmer an adult-friendly upgrade

Few cocktails are as universally beloved as the Arnold Palmer – a perfect blend of iced tea and lemonade that has become synonymous with refreshing, non-alcoholic spring sipping.

Named after the legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, who popularised the drink by ordering it at country clubs and golf courses, this classic concoction is a staple of warm-weather gatherings. But what if you could take this simple, thirst-quenching drink and give it an adult-friendly upgrade?

Enter the Spiked Arnold Palmer, a cocktail that combines the nostalgic flavours of iced tea and lemonade with a kick of your favourite spirit.

The Spiked Arnold Palmer can be made with a variety of spirits, depending on your preference. Vodka is a popular choice because of its neutral flavour, which allows the iced tea and lemonade to shine. Bourbon is another excellent option, adding a rich, caramel undertone. For a more tropical twist, try using rum, which adds a subtle sweetness and depth to the drink.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml vodka, bourbon, or rum (your choice)
  • 120 ml brewed iced tea (black tea works best)
  • 120 ml lemonade
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and mint sprigs for garnish (optional)

Method

  1. Start by brewing a strong batch of black tea. Allow it to cool to room temperature, then chill it in the refrigerator.
  2. In a tall glass filled with ice cubes, pour in your chosen spirit. Add iced tea and lemonade. Stir gently to combine the ingredients.
  3. Garnish with a slice of lemon and a sprig of fresh mint.
