From actor to playwright: Thobani Nzuza to publish second book
Thobani Nzuza, a celebrated South African actor, director, playwright, vocalist, and dancer continues to make powerful strides in the entertainment industry.
Known for his roles in popular television series such as eHostela, Uzalo, Isitha: The Enemy, and Isipho, Nzuza is now expanding his craft with the publication of his second theatre play, a work he wrote in 2014 while in university.
Taking to Instagram, Nzuza announced that he has decided to publish his second book and expressed his gratitude to @sphephelo_afezeka for their assistance in bringing the play to publication. He said he decided to publish the play after receiving an email from a professor at Wits University which noted the play’s potential.
According to YouthVillage, the award-winning playwright and storyteller published his first book, Boy Ntulikazi, in 2018, which focused on how personal challenges shape one’s worldview. The story follows Ntulikazi, whose troubled past left him mentally unstable and exhibiting multiple character traits.
In addition, TVSA reports that Nzuza directed and performed in the play of his book Boy Ntulikazi, and later published the play. The production received several accolades, including Best Actor at the 2015 IsiGcawu Festival, Best Actor and Best Production at the 2017 Baxter Zabalaza Theatre Festival, and Best Community Production at the South African Theatre Magazine Awards.
