Airport mistakes to avoid

Published

on

The opportunity to soar the skies as you travel to your desired destination is an exciting privilege. However, the complexities of an airport can be quite challenging to navigate, especially if you are not used to travelling by plane.

From luggage limitations to checking in and even keeping track of flight schedule changes, it can all seem too overwhelming!

Here are some common airport mistakes to avoid:

Ignoring luggage limits and packing rules

One of the most common mistakes made by travellers is not paying attention to the luggage limits specified by a particular airline.

It is important to check your luggage weight and to avoid overpacking. Moreover, ensure that you are not packing any prohibited items such as sharp objects and certain liquids. In packing properly, you will avoid the stress of having to unpack at the airport or even paying extra fees.

Dressing inappropriately

Always strive to be as comfortable as possible. Ensure that you wear loose-fitting and breathable clothing. It is also advisable to avoid wearing bulky jewellery. Additionally, make sure that your shoes are as comfortable as possible.

The last minute airport rush

Time is of the essence. When catching a flight, it is extremely important to ensure that you arrive early. It is recommended that you arrive at least two or three hours before your flight. This way, you eliminate any unnecessary stress which will suck the joy out of your travel experience. An early arrival affords you enough time to check in, go through security and relax before you board the plane.

Not having your travel documents ready

Waiting until the very last minute to organise your passport, boarding pass and any other necessary documents creates a stressful airport experience. It can also cause delays to your overall check-in process. Keep your travel documents ready. It will save you a lot of time and trouble.

Failure to check flight status

Weather conditions and a number of other factors can result in changes to your flight schedule. As such, it helps to check the status of your flight before heading to the airport.

As you wait at the airport, it also helps to not rely solely on announcements regarding your flight. Rather, check the website of your airline and the flight information screens too.
