South African global sensation Tyla has done more than just top the charts — she’s now warming hearts too. The Water hitmaker surprised local women’s empowerment organisation 18Twenty8 with a heartfelt donation from the proceeds of her custom Bliss smoothie, sold at high-end U.S. grocery chain Erewhon.

The donation came completely out of the blue. Founder Refiloe Seseane said the team only found out after Tyla named them in a promotional video. “We were all shocked,” said Seseane. “It really came out of nowhere… We feel truly blessed that she chose us out of all the organisations in South Africa.”

A Moment of National Pride

Tyla’s decision to uplift 18Twenty8, which has spent the past 14 years helping women aged 18 to 28, hit home for many in Mzansi. Social media erupted with praise for the singer, who many view as a beacon of hope and pride for the country.

“She’s so niceeee,” wrote fan Princess Benson.
“Go for the right thing baby girl,” added Thembi Makglory.
“Love the cause the proceeds are going to,” commented @cheftiffanythomas.

The gesture comes at a time when grassroots organisations like 18Twenty8 are striving for visibility and funding to expand their impact.

More Than a Donation — A Movement

Tyla’s endorsement is being viewed as a game-changing moment for 18Twenty8. “Not only do we see it as an achievement, but also as a motivator,” said Seseane. “They say it takes years to become an overnight success — and after 14 years, people are now taking note of our work because of Tyla.”

From mentoring through their Big Sister Network to funding tuition for underprivileged young women, 18Twenty8’s impact has been widespread. Their camps and support programmes have helped countless women navigate adulthood with confidence and purpose.

A True Role Model

Tyla’s actions show that she’s not just a pop star — she’s a role model. By supporting an organisation focused on real empowerment, she’s set a standard for what it means to give back.

As fans celebrate her talent and generosity, the message is clear: Tyla is using her global platform to uplift her roots — and Mzansi couldn’t be prouder.
