Miss South Africa 2024, Mia Le Roux, is ready to represent South Africa at the Miss Universe competition in Mexico. This opportunity arrives just two months after she made history as the first Miss SA titleholder with profound hearing loss. Le Roux, 28, views this milestone as a chance to spread a message of inclusivity and highlight the beauty of diversity on an international platform.

A Farewell to Remember

The Miss SA organization held a special farewell for Le Roux at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg. Surrounded by supporters, she shared her excitement and gratitude. “I plan to take away a piece of every South African who has shown me kindness. I will carry their love with me on stage,” she said.

Embracing Mexican Culture

Le Roux is also eager to learn about Mexico’s culture. Rather than over-researching, she has decided to experience the trip with an open mind and fresh eyes. “I want to allow myself to experience my journey and the country with a fresh perspective,” she explained. Her curiosity about diverse cultures reflects her commitment to inclusivity.

Spreading the Message of Inclusivity

Since her crowning, Le Roux’s life has been packed with photoshoots, planning, and wardrobe fittings. “It’s been busy, but it pays off,” she said. Beyond the glamor, Le Roux values the discussions she has sparked around inclusivity. “It brings me great joy when someone differently able tells me they feel empowered or beautiful because they see me championing for them,” she shared.

Le Roux’s commitment to inclusivity has inspired people across South Africa and beyond. She believes winning Miss Universe would give her a bigger platform to share this message. “If I am meant to be the new queen, that will happen,” she said.

Le Roux’s wardrobe for Miss Universe will also highlight African creativity. She will wear custom designs by AFI Atelier, founded by Precious Moloi-Motsepe. Moloi-Motsepe is excited about this collaboration, stating that AFI Atelier’s wardrobe reflects values of innovation, excellence, and African craftsmanship.

“This partnership reinforces our dedication to empowering women and highlights Africa’s influence in global fashion,” she explained. Le Roux will not only represent South Africa but also showcase African style and talent.

Le Roux hopes to follow in the footsteps of Zozibini Tunzi, who won Miss Universe in 2019. If she wins, Le Roux aims to share South Africa’s spirit of unity with the world. She hopes to show that diversity is a strength and a source of beauty.
