Safari Guests Left Stunned as Lion Charges at Lodge in Limpopo

A moment of excitement at Mhondoro Safari Lodge in Limpopo’s Waterberg region quickly turned into sheer panic when a male lion in heat unexpectedly charged toward guests.

The dramatic scene, captured in a viral video circulating on TikTok, unfolded as the lion, engaged in a mating ritual with a lioness near the lodge, perceived the guests’ movements as a threat to his mate.

As visitors stepped off a nearby safari vehicle onto an elevated lodge deck, the lion reacted instantly, charging toward them with fierce determination.

The lodge later explained the incident in a TikTok post, warning, “Don’t mess with a mating male lion . This lion was mating with a female right in front of the lodge. As the guests got off the vehicle at the elevated lodge deck, the lion took this as a threat to his female and charged straight towards the lodge!”

Fortunately, the charge turned out to be a bluff, and the lion soon returned to his mate without causing harm. While the guests were left shaken, the encounter gave them a thrilling tale to tell.
