Layla Kolbe Returns to South Africa with Kids for New School Year After Japan Holiday
Layla Kolbe, wife of Springbok star Cheslin Kolbe, returned to South Africa on January 15 with her three children to prepare them for the new school year. The family had spent the festive holidays in Japan, where Cheslin currently plays for Tokyo Sungoliath in the Japanese Rugby League One, but Layla needed to bring the children back to Cape Town ahead of school starting.
In a series of Instagram posts, Layla shared her family’s travel journey, from the airport to their home. She humorously documented the challenges of international travel with young children. “4 hours later and it’s still Monday for us! I’ve done this many times to myself, but I have never braced myself for this one- Cayden Kolbe is something else! Dennis the Menace for who!!! I’m so glad it’s over! 😖 🥂. Now to tackle the Jetlag because it’s actually Tuesday for us! 😴,” Layla wrote, capturing the exhaustion of the trip.

In one video, Layla captured a sweet moment in the car when her daughter Kylah, 6, proudly showed off her freshly done hair. Her brother, Cayden, 10, responded with a simple “Wow!” and later agreed that her hair was “very pretty.” The younger Mila Sky, 3, joined in the compliments too, making the moment even more adorable.

“Straight from Japan into the day before school prep for all 3 kids. Girl se hare is gedoen,” Layla posted, reflecting on the whirlwind day.
On the first day of school, Layla shared another update, revealing that Cayden, her eldest, was excited but forgetful. “What a morning! Poor child didn’t have a school bag, chuffed with his big Springbok bag, thank goodness the initials are the same! First day of school, Cayden’s first official day too. 3 kids, 2 different schools, mama I made it! 💪,” she shared, along with photos of her children ready for their first day of school.

She added humorously, “Now let’s go sort out the hurricane at home and a 1052 emails 😭. And get bags sorted. And Still sitting in school parking. I’m not crying.”
The Kolbe family’s exciting journey marks a new chapter for Layla and her children as they settle into their routine in South Africa while Cheslin continues his rugby career in Japan.
