French Couple Sentenced for Brutally Killing Dog with Chainsaw in Revenge Act

A French couple has been sentenced to prison for the horrific killing of their dog with a chainsaw in a misguided attempt to avenge the death of their cat, which the woman claimed had been killed by the dog, an Argentinian mastiff.

The incident took place in May 2024 in Levis, northern France, after police were called to the scene due to reports of domestic violence. The woman testified in the Auxerre court that she had stabbed the dog after discovering her partner’s cat dead. Initially, the couple claimed they planned to euthanize the dog because it was dangerous, but later decided to decapitate it as they saw it as their only option at the time.

The man, who admitted to heavy drinking that day—consuming a litre of vodka and two beers—said he participated in the brutal act to “avenge” his cat. The 38-year-old man, who had previously attended rehab for drug and alcohol abuse, was sentenced to 18 months in prison. His partner, aged 31, received a two-year sentence.
