Vodacom South Africa Announces Job Cuts: 113 Employees Affected in Restructuring Drive

Vodacom South Africa has confirmed that it will lay off 113 employees as part of a restructuring initiative aimed at enhancing its operations. The decision follows a notice served to 400 employees under section 189 of the Labour Relations Act, which outlines the process for fair dismissals based on operational requirements.

In an official statement, Vodacom expressed regret over the impact these job cuts will have on valued employees across various levels, including management and senior management. This marks the second significant round of job cuts within a year, following the elimination of approximately 80 roles in the previous year. The company attributed those earlier cuts to its transition from a traditional telecommunications operator to a technology-focused entity.

Vodacom’s restructuring comes at a critical time as the company seeks to adapt to the evolving demands of the telecoms industry and position itself for long-term sustainability. “Vodacom South Africa has taken the difficult decision to restructure parts of our business, which unfortunately could impact about 113 of our valued employees,” the company stated.

Despite these challenges, Vodacom remains committed to supporting its affected employees throughout this transition. The company emphasizes its focus on delivering exceptional value and relevant services to customers in an increasingly competitive market.

The announcement of these job cuts coincides with Vodacom Group’s recent discussions with investors, where it outlined plans to accelerate earnings growth over the next five years. The group aims to increase EBITDA growth from high single digits to double digits, reflecting its ambition to thrive in the “beyond mobile” environment.

As Vodacom South Africa navigates this restructuring phase, the commitment to adapt and innovate remains at the forefront of its strategy, ensuring the company stays relevant in the fast-changing technology landscape.
