SABC Appoints Lungile Binza as COO to Drive Digital Transformation

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced the appointment of Lungile Binza as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective 01 March 2025. Binza, who has been serving as Acting COO since February 2024, brings extensive technology expertise and leadership experience to the role.
A Leader in Digital Transformation
Before stepping into his acting COO position, Binza was SABC’s Group Executive: Technology, where he played a pivotal role in the broadcaster’s digital transformation initiatives. His background as a software engineer and his executive management experience across sectors such as banking and manufacturing make him well-suited to drive innovation and operational excellence within the SABC.
“Lungile Binza’s visionary approach will be instrumental in modernizing the SABC and ensuring it remains at the forefront of digital broadcasting,” said the SABC Board in a statement.

Binza holds an impressive academic portfolio, including:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematical Statistics
- Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PDBA) – Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria
- Master of Commerce in Information Systems – University of Cape Town
- Master in Business Administration (MBA) in General Management – University of Pretoria
- PhD in Ethical Artificial Intelligence (in progress)
