MultiChoice Unveils 2025 DStv & Showmax Updates: New Channels, Price Adjustments & More
MultiChoice South Africa, the country’s leading video entertainment provider, has unveiled its annual price and product adjustments for DStv and Showmax in 2025, with a strong focus on delivering better value to customers.
In a move that acknowledges the financial challenges many South African households face, MultiChoice has introduced strategic price adjustments, new channels, and additional benefits—including free extra streams and discounted Showmax bundles.
Byron Du Plessis, CEO of MultiChoice SA, emphasized the company’s commitment to affordability and quality entertainment:
“Recognising the financial pressures faced by South African households, MultiChoice has implemented considered adjustments, focusing on enhancing value across its packages, with certain products receiving no increase—including all DStv Stream packages, Box Office movies, and Showmax Entertainment. The ADD Movies premium bolt-on has been reduced to just R49 per month, a 38% price drop.”
Key Changes for DStv & Showmax in 2025
1. New Channels Added Across Packages
MultiChoice is expanding its content offerings with new channels across various DStv packages:
- Compact Subscribers get five new channels:
- SuperSport Action
- CBS Justice
- Africa Magic Showcase
- Curiosity Channel
- History Channel
Plus, the highly anticipated new season of Shaka Ilembe, MultiChoice’s biggest local production yet.
- Family Package adds:
- Comedy Central
- HGTV
- Disney Channel
- Access Package now includes:
- Zee World
- Nicktoons
2. Extra Streams for Premium, Compact Plus & Compact Subscribers
Subscribers on Premium, Compact Plus, and Compact packages will now enjoy an additional free concurrent stream, allowing more flexibility to watch on multiple devices.
3. Price Adjustments: Increases & Discounts
While some packages see slight price hikes, others remain unchanged—or even get cheaper.

4. VAT Increase Impact (From May 2025)
As announced in the national budget, VAT will increase by 0.5% to 15.5% from 1 May 2025, affecting package pricing. MultiChoice will communicate exact adjustments in April.

MultiChoice is encouraging customers to lock in current prices with 24-month price-lock deals (available until 31 March 2025). For example:
- A R899/month Premium package lock saves R2,400 over two years.
