Western Cape Taxi Strike Persists as Talks Reach Standstill
The Western Cape taxi strike will continue into the new work week, frustrating many commuters. Per EWN, talks between Santaco taxi industry leaders, the Western Cape government, and the City of Cape Town failed to produce any solutions, and the ongoing seizure of minibuses remains a point of contention.

The strike has been marred by violence, with a municipal depot in Delft and several vehicles petrol-bombed. The Golden Arrow Bus Company has won an interim high court order against Santaco after half a dozen of its buses were torched. Provincial mobility MEC Ricardo Mackenzie said negotiations had stalled, and commuters must rely on MyCiTi buses and Golden Arrow buses to get to and from work safely.
Cosatu’s Western Cape secretary, Malvern de Bruyn, called for peace and continued talks to find a solution. Santaco Western Cape has not commented on the situation.
