This August brings not just one but two supermoons. The first one graced us with its presence, and on the night of Aug. 30, the moon will be even closer, at a mere 222,043 miles (357,344 kilometres) distant.
The upcoming supermoon is even more special as it will be a “blue moon” – the second full moon in the same month.
This remarkable event is rare, and the last time two full supermoons occurred in the same month was back in 2018. According to Italian astronomer Gianluca Masi, founder of the Virtual Telescope Project, we won’t witness such a celestial event again until 2037.
