Julius Malema hit back at the Nasi Ispani job campaign

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema hit back at the Nasi Ispani job campaign headed by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, labelling it a mere election ploy. According to EWN, the Gauteng government’s initiative promised to recruit thousands of unemployed youth every month until July 2024, drawing harsh criticism from detractors who claim it is a tactic to boost the ANC’s image ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Last week, the campaign garnered attention as it attracted thousands of people to the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, where Lesufi offered employment opportunities to the attendees. However, Malema expressed scepticism about the legitimacy of the hiring process, accusing the ANC-led government of hiring individuals based on party affiliation rather than merit.

Malema confidently stated that the EFF would take over Gauteng next year and asserted that it would expel all those employed through the Nasi Ispani campaign if his party came to power. He believes many of those hired did not go through the proper selection process and were given jobs because of their affiliation with the ANC or involvement in party campaigning.

“You must whisper to them ‘it’s over’ when you meet them in their oversized overalls,” Malema remarked, sending a clear message that the EFF intends to challenge the ANC’s approach to job creation and hiring practices.

As the political landscape heats up ahead of the 2024 elections, the Nasi Ispani campaign has become a subject of intense debate, with critics questioning its effectiveness and motives. With the Gauteng government’s promise to create thousands of jobs each month, the initiative’s implementation and impact on unemployment rates and the economy remain scrutinised.
