Phillip Montshiwa, the spokesperson for Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM), informed us that technicians had been dispatched to the substation to address the issue. The 10MVA Eskom transformer tripped due to uncontrollable factors.
Montshiwa revealed that they had already informed Eskom about the situation, but community members held Eskom hostage at their depot. Eventually, the technicians managed to access the transformer and conduct tests. However, the duration of the downtime remains uncertain.
The municipality expresses apologies for the inconvenience caused to the affected residents during this time without electricity.
