South African Motorists Rank as World’s Worst Drivers Study Find

A recent study conducted by Australian insurance company Compare the Market has placed South African motorists at the top of the world’s worst drivers list, surpassing 19 other countries. The study, which relied on fatal car crash statistics from 20 nations, revealed that South Africa recorded the highest number of fatal accidents among the countries studied, as reported by Briefly.

South African roads have long been recognised for their hazardous nature. During the 2022/2023 festive season, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) reported a staggering 1,452 fatalities in fatal accidents on South African roads. Fikile Mbalula, the transport minister at the time, claimed that this figure represented a 13.9% decrease from the previous year, indicating some progress in road safety.

The findings of this study shed light on the urgent need for improved road safety measures and driver behaviour in South Africa. Efforts to reduce fatalities have shown some positive impact, but the challenges remain significant.
