City of Joburg Proceeds with Tariff Increases on 1 July, Despite 42K Objections
Johannesburg will increase tariffs on 1 July, affecting essential services such as water, electricity, property rates, and refuse and sanitation, as Dada Morero, Mayoral Committee for Finance, announced.
702 reports that the new tariffs will impact services such as water, electricity, property rates, and refuse and sanitation, with property rates set to rise by 2%.

Despite implementing these tariffs, Morero acknowledged the widespread dissatisfaction among residents, as evidenced by the 42,000 objections received regarding the proposed hike.
While recognising the concerns, Morero highlighted the city’s need to continue functioning and stated that keeping the increase to a minimum of 2% is a priority.
