Rand Water's planned shutdown

Johannesburg Water customers in various areas of the City of Johannesburg will experience water outages during Rand Water’s planned shutdown, which is to take place from June 20 at 19:00 to June 22 at 15:00. Johannesburg Water (JW) has issued a media statement notifying its customers about the planned shutdown, stating that it is necessary to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, as well as conduct installation of isolation valves and systems upgrades at Rand Water’s (RW) Eikenhof pump station.

During the shutdown, JW infrastructure supplied by the pump station will be affected, resulting in a lack of water supply. JW estimates that the systems may take approximately five days or longer to recover once the reserve reaches capacity. The shutdown’s impact will also extend to areas receiving direct water supply from RW.

To mitigate the effects of the water outage, JW will make arrangements for alternative water supply at critical locations such as hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations, and shopping centres. JW will provide regular updates regarding the progress of the shutdown and water restoration on its official social media platforms.
