power outage hit the water supply

Some Joburg residents in Alexander Park and South Hills can expect little to no water pressure as a power outage hit the water supply, leading to critically low reservoir levels.

According to Eyewitness News, Joburg Water has reported that a power failure at a major Rand Water purification plant has significantly impacted the affected zones’ towers. This incident occurred last week and has reduced the water supply to the two reservoirs serving these areas.

Although Rand Water has resolved the power trip at its purification plant, it will still take a few more days for Joburg Water to restore supply to its affected systems fully.

Nombuso Shabalala, a representative from Joburg Water, expressed the situation, saying, “On Friday the second of June, Rand Water experienced power outages at its Zuikerbosch purification plant and Palmiet pump station. This has impacted Johannesburg Water’s infrastructure, leading to low water levels in the affected areas.”

Residents in Alexander Park and South Hills received the advice to manage their water usage carefully and to expect limited water pressure until the supply is fully restored. Joburg Water is working diligently to rectify the situation as quickly as possible and apologizes for the inconvenience caused to the affected residents.
