Authorities struggle to identify source of devastating cholera outbreak
The recent cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal has claimed lives due to delayed treatment, according to Acting Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi. According to eNCA, Motsoaledi made this statement after he visited the Jubilee Regional Hospital on Thursday, highlighting the urgent need for swift action. Health experts are still working to identify the source of the cholera outbreak. In the meantime, every water tanker entering Hammanskraal is undergoing rigorous testing to ensure the safety of the water supply.
Health experts expect the number to rise, with the death toll already at 22. To address the situation promptly, Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu announced the formation of a task team. The team will work towards swiftly ending the cholera outbreak wreaking havoc in Hammanskraal.

Mchunu also pledged financial support for completing the Rooiwal Water Plant, a crucial infrastructure for delivering clean water throughout the area. By prioritising the completion of this critical infrastructure, the government aims to ensure the distribution of clean water to the affected community.
In response to the outbreak, the Gauteng Education Department is taking necessary measures to provide essential water supplies to schools in Hammanskraal. The department recognises the importance of uninterrupted learning amidst this crisis.
As the investigation continues and efforts intensify to address the outbreak, the focus remains on providing immediate medical attention to affected individuals and implementing measures to prevent further spread of the disease.
