Stolen bakkie recovered near Ngodwana with disturbing discovery – Corpse found in coffin

A shocking discovery unfolded during the recovery of the vehicle when a local security company stumbled upon a grisly scene: a corpse in a coffin in a stolen bakkie.

According to Albert Gryvenstein of AG Solutions, his team received a tip-off regarding the stolen bakkie in the Ngodwana area on the evening of May 5. Swiftly responding to the information, they pursued the vehicle and successfully apprehended it. Local police were also present at the scene to assist.

Gryvenstein recounted how his team thoroughly searched the stolen bakkie, suspecting hidden firearms or other illicit items. However, their expectations quickly turned into shock as they opened the back of the vehicle and discovered a coffin.

Initially unprepared for such a macabre find, the security team found the lifeless body of a man inside the coffin. Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a spokesperson for the provincial police, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the white Toyota bakkie had been reported stolen in Vosman. Remarkably, the deceased individual was a family member of one of the suspects, and the suspect had the proper burial documentation.

The details surrounding the intended destination of the body and the timeline of the vehicle’s theft remain unclear at this stage.

The two men implicated in the case appeared before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on May 8. However, the court postponed the matter to May 12. Monica Nyuswa, the Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, indicated that the bail application hearing is now set for Friday, May 19. As investigations continue, the peculiar circumstances of this case have left the community bewildered and awaiting further developments in this unsettling ordeal.
