Driver’s licence disaster – SA left in chaos as only printing machine breaks down after maintenance
Once again, South Africa’s machine for printing driving licence cards is out of action. Last year, the country’s only card printing machine broke down, leading to a backlog of work that lasted for four weeks. This time, the Department of Transport has said that the maintenance of the machine will not impact the printing of driving licence cards, as reported by Eyewitness News.
According to the Department of Transport, routine maintenance of the card-printing machine began last month. However, the technical team found a breakdown that necessitated the replacement of a critical component of the equipment. They anticipate that it may take up to three weeks to repair the machine.
Despite this setback, the Department of Transport has assured South Africans that the production of driver’s licence cards will not be affected. Accordingly, people are encouraged to continue applying for their cards as usual.
