1.4M people attempted to buy R9 tickets during FlySafair’s sale

FlySafair’s R9 ticket sale for 50,000 domestic flights departing between May and November 2023 drew in 1.4M+ buyers, almost 200K more than last year. The airline used a waiting room system to manage demand, selling 50,372 tickets through 16,487 individual bookings.

Flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town were the most popular, followed by flights between Johannesburg and Durban. Gauteng accounted for 49% of all sales, followed by the Western Cape (21%), KwaZulu-Natal (10%) and the Eastern Cape (4%).

Around 60% of buyers accessed the sale via mobile devices. FlySafair has been selling R1 to R9 tickets in their annual sale for the last nine years, having sold 150,000 tickets in total.

For those who missed out on the R9 tickets, FlySafair is offering a 30% discount on all flights until midnight on Wednesday.
