Ramaphosa Confident Zelensky’s Visit Won’t Strain US-South Africa Relations

President Cyril Ramaphosa has assured that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s upcoming visit to South Africa will not create tensions with the United States. Zelensky is expected to visit next month to continue discussions on the Russia-Ukraine war and possible peace initiatives.
Ramaphosa dismissed concerns that hosting Zelensky could negatively impact diplomatic ties with Washington, reaffirming South Africa’s neutral stance on global conflicts.
Speaking at the Bana Pele Early Childhood Development Leadership Summit in Braamfontein, Ramaphosa stressed the country’s commitment to peace and mediation.
“President Zelensky is due to come to South Africa soon, and we look forward to welcoming him. Our objective is to reinforce the message of peace,” he said.
South Africa has consistently maintained that diplomacy is the only solution to ending the conflict. Ramaphosa noted that the US shares the same goal of a peaceful resolution, further reducing concerns of diplomatic fallout.
The visit comes amid growing calls for intensified international efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war. As a BRICS member, South Africa continues to advocate for global peace through dialogue and negotiations.
