The Executive Major of Johannesburg, Thapelo Amad, discussed the impact of load-shedding on the country’s employment rate and expressed his determination to find permanent solutions to the issue with investors and partners at the Gauteng Energy Expo.

Members of the Executive Council of Gauteng joined Amad in seeking permanent solutions to the energy crisis in the province.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi, Executive Major Thapelo Amad, MEC for Finance and e-Government Mzikayifani Mzi Khumalo, and Gauteng chairperson of the South African Local Government Association Jongizizwe Dlabathi held a panel discussion at the Gauteng Energy Expo to discuss the challenges of the power crisis and put forward potential solutions.

Amad emphasized the need for a mixed energy strategy, building on the legacy of the late mayor, Mpho Moerane. Lesufi thanked the participants for their contributions and expressed his desire to invest in products that can help resolve the problem of load-shedding while also protecting the poorest of the poor.
Representatives from renewable energy supply companies also provided insights on how they could assist the city with power solutions during a Q&A session.
