Tributes Pour in for Iconic Singer and Actress Winnie Khumalo

The entertainment industry and fans are mourning the sudden death of beloved singer and actress Winnie Khumalo. Known for her chart-topping hit Live My Life, Khumalo’s passing has left South Africans reeling with shock and sadness.

Khumalo’s death was confirmed by family spokesperson Tshephi Rakeepile, who revealed that the 51-year-old Soweto-born artist passed away on Tuesday after a short illness. Tragically, she died en route to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The family is deeply heartbroken. Winnie’s passing has left an unimaginable void,” said Rakeepile.

Khumalo is survived by her daughter, singer Rethabile Khumalo, her son Thabo Khumalo—whom she had with late boxing champion Dingaan Thobela—and three grandchildren.

Social media platforms have been flooded with tributes, with fans, colleagues, and industry peers expressing their grief.

Kalawa Jazmee Records, the label she collaborated with, described her as a “true icon” whose contributions to South African music were both remarkable and unforgettable.

“Her passion, talent, and dedication to her craft have left an indelible mark on the industry and in the hearts of her fans. Rest in peace, Winnie Khumalo,” the label said in a heartfelt statement.

Music producer DJ Mahoota also expressed his sadness on Instagram:
“Saddened by the passing of such a great jewel, a star, a businesswoman. Condolences to the family, close relatives, and fans. #RIPWinnieKhumalo 💔💔💔.”

Singer Tshedi Mholo and actor Jerry Mofokeng shared their tributes, recalling Khumalo’s immense talent and the joy she brought to audiences.

Winnie Khumalo rose to prominence with her captivating performances and powerful voice. She inspired countless artists and became a household name in South Africa. Her role as Brenda Fassie in the 2010 biographical production Ma-Brr showcased her versatility as both a singer and an actress.

The cause of her death remains unknown, and funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
