Adidas Shoes Recovered After Hijacking: Two Suspects Arrested in Limpopo

In a swift response to organized crime, two foreign nationals aged 32 and 50 were arrested in Musina, Limpopo, for possession of suspected stolen property. The arrest came after a truck hijacking incident in Gauteng, where a shipment of Adidas shoes worth millions was taken.

Details of the Hijacking

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba reported that the hijacked truck, which was carrying Adidas footwear, was intercepted following a coordinated effort by the Limpopo provincial organized crime investigation unit and a logistics company based in Gauteng.

The truck was hijacked in Putfontein, Gauteng, back in September 2024.

“Members acted on intelligence regarding a hijacked truck carrying Adidas shoes worth millions,” Ledwaba stated.

The successful operation led police to a wholesale supermarket in Musina.

They recovered 85 pairs of stolen shoes valued at R60,000.

Arrest and Charges

The two men were apprehended on Friday afternoon after police found them in possession of the Adidas shoes. They failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their possession of the items, leading to their arrest.

They are scheduled to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

Law Enforcement’s Response

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, praised the arrest and commended the joint efforts of law enforcement agencies in tackling organized crime. She urged investigators to continue pursuing leads until all suspects related to the hijacking are brought to justice.

Related Incidents

This incident is part of a broader effort by the police in Limpopo to combat hijacking and vehicle theft. Last week, the SAPS flying squad arrested a 54-year-old man for possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle, specifically a white Toyota Fortuner.

The vehicle was intercepted on the N1 North freeway and had been reported stolen earlier this month in Garsfontein, Pretoria East.

The successful recovery of the stolen Adidas shoes and the arrest of the suspects highlight the effectiveness of coordinated law enforcement operations in combating crime in South Africa. As police continue their investigations, the community remains hopeful for further breakthroughs in curbing hijacking incidents and restoring safety.
