Joburg taxi bosses sign deal to settle industry disputes

Published

The City of Joburg and taxi industry leaders signed a protocol document outlining settling disputes and promoting good conduct between taxi drivers and commuters. The document requires operators to resolve disputes by communicating in writing within seven days, after which the city will provide mediation and conciliation at its expense as reported by the Sowetan Live.

The partnership aims to improve driver conduct, address crime and filth at taxi ranks, and create a structured system for the city to engage with the taxi industry as a critical stakeholder in the city’s economic development.

In addition, the agreement includes driver training programs in partnership with universities to improve behaviour and customer service.
