Over the past weekend, a significant number of ANC Youth League members embarked on a march from Luthuli House in the Johannesburg CBD to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in Sandton. Despite facing harsh weather conditions due to a severe heatwave in the region, the members displayed unwavering determination along their route. The march resulted in traffic delays as they delivered a memorandum to Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Jomo Sibiya.

City of Johannesburg Issues Heatwave Warning

During the same weekend, the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) issued warnings concerning the soaring temperatures that soared to 34ºC. EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi advised residents to prioritize safety measures by remaining indoors, staying hydrated, and safeguarding children from direct exposure to sunlight. Furthermore, concerns were expressed regarding the increased risk of veld fires, prompting residents to refrain from discarding any burning materials.
