Posduif Delights Audience at Voortrekker Monument

The powerful and rhythmic sounds of the alternative pop music group, Posduif, resonated across the square in front of the Voortrekker Monument.

Comprising five members, Posduif crafts songs with positive messages, featuring strong basslines from their bass guitarist and a melancholic blues sound from saxophonist Malusi Masia. Their performance is part of a nationwide tour to release two new singles.

The simultaneous release of the two distinct singles, the melancholic and nostalgic ‘Kaalvoetkinders’ and the tongue-in-cheek track ‘Voetfout’, was intentionally planned to offer listeners a range of emotions.

“One for tears in your eyes and the other for a smile on your face,” explained lead singer James Boland.

Posduif Emerges as a Musical Powerhouse

Posduif made its mark in 2018 when Boland began performing with the English group Rubber Duc. The reconstituted group gained popularity with the song ‘Brandy Special’, garnering over 400,000 hits on streaming services.

Today, Posduif comprises guitarists and vocalists Boland and Jordaan, Gopal on bass guitar, Campbell as producer and guitarist, drummer Nick McCreadie, and saxophonist Malusi Masia.

Despite starting off unfamiliar with Afrikaans music, the group has since immersed themselves in the industry, earning accolades such as Group of the Year and Song of the Year from Bokradio, and the South African Music Association’s award for Best Pop Album in 2022 for ‘Niks Vergelyk’.

Posduif’s Humility Shines Through Success

Despite their achievements, the members of Posduif remain humble, emphasizing the camaraderie among bandmates and families. They were pleasantly surprised by their success at the South African Music Association awards.

One of their hit singles, ‘Kaalvoet Kinders’, was inspired by a casual gathering of friends on a game farm in Rustenburg, underscoring themes of innocence and simplicity.

Exciting Future for Posduif

Looking ahead, Posduif is set for a busy 2025, with six new songs already lined up for recording and release. They are scheduled to perform alongside Kurt Darren at Loftus on October 19 and as the opening act for American country music artist Kip Moore in Cape Town on October 26 and 27.

The band’s recent album launch, titled ‘Brandstigter’, explores themes of love, breaking rules, and their dedication to fans and families. Posduif’s energetic performances on stage aim to bring joy to audiences of all ages.
