SAPS vehicle repair tender case postponed to November

The Pretoria Regional Court recently postponed the case involving two of the 23 co-accused individuals charged with fraud and corruption related to the SAPS vehicle repairs tender. The postponement has been set to November 26.

Case Details

• Businessman Kishene Chetty and his co-accused are facing charges of fraud, theft, and corruption in connection to the SAPS contract for vehicle repairs spanning from May to November 2017.
• Thirteen of the accused are former police officers, six are SAPS administrative clerks, and the remaining individuals are businesspeople who are alleged to have colluded to benefit Paroex Auto and Mechanical Holdings PTY LTD.

The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, informed that the case of the two accused was postponed to allow them to confirm legal aid.

Upcoming Proceedings

• Mamothame stated that the accused will appear in court together on December 4 to confirm legal representation and readiness for pre-trial.
• Chetty and his co-accused appeared in court on September 30, where legal aid attorneys studied the disclosures provided by the state in preparation for pre-trial conferencing.
• Five of the accused had their legal aid applications confirmed, while others are still pending approval from Legal Aid South Africa.

Mamothame also confirmed that the state had received all necessary disclosures to prepare for pre-trial conferencing. The businesspersons involved in the case include Kishene Chetty, Volan Prithiviraj, Kumarasen Prithiviraj, and Linda Lubanyana.
