Abnormal Bus Services Expected in Tshwane Due to Driver Shortage

Commuters utilizing the Tshwane Bus Services in certain areas of Pretoria should anticipate disruptions in services for two days, as the metro grapples with a lack of drivers.

Tshwane authorities have disclosed that bus operations will be marginally affected on Thursday and Friday as a disciplinary procedure unfolds.

Metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba stated that 31 bus drivers, who are members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), are set to appear before the city’s disciplinary committee.

This action follows the serving of charges against them for their involvement in an unprotected strike in May.

Bokaba mentioned that this situation implies a reduction of 15 buses from the 160 bus routes typically serviced on weekdays, with some routes experiencing delays or fewer buses due to the reallocation of drivers to high-volume areas.

Affected Routes:

  • Villieria 3
  • Wespark 1, 7, and 8
  • Voortrekkerhoogte
  • The Willows
  • Lynnwood Manor
  • Garsfontein 2
  • Centurion
  • Danville
  • Doornpoort 2
  • East Lynne 1
  • Murrayfield
  • Moregloed 1
  • The Orchards 2

The city extends its sincere apologies to affected bus commuters for any inconvenience caused by the disruption and advises them to consider alternative travel arrangements.

Further updates on the situation will be provided in due course.
